DRY DAYS ARE HERE
Tips to
stay hydrated inside and out
THESE
DAYS when you look into the mirror, do you scream with horror? Is your skin
rough and textured, covered with spots and freckles? Is your hair dull and
lifeless? Does the waistband of your pants feel tighter in the late afternoon
because of bloating?
If
your answer to all of the above is yes, stop panicking. This is just seasonal
dryness, caused by vata (air) aggravation.
According
to ayurvedic texts, spring and autumn are the seasons when the body adjusts
from one extreme (cold) to another (hot). This calls for a similar readjustment
in your diet so that your hair, skin and digestive system are balanced and the
aggravated air element is corrected. (Now you know why the Navratras, with
their fasts and special meals, fall in these seasons.)
The
body constitution most affected by this season is the air element constitution
– vata. If you are vata predominant, you are subject to dry skin and hair, dry
cough, rashes, constipation and body pain.
But
you can beat seasonal dryness with these measures.
A
sesame oil massage every few days will keep your skin smooth and
well-lubricated, and prevent early wrinkles.
Aloe
vera skin gel moisturises the skin and keeps it supple.
Mung
dal khichdi with ghee balances the vata element in your body and provides lubrication
for the bowels.
