Mediterranean
| With fresh fruit and
vegetables, wholegrain cereals, nuts, the odd glass of red wine, fish and
dairy, and olive oil as the main source of fat, it is one of the world's

Japan
| Has one of the highest
life expectancies in the world. A recent study pinpointed this to its diet high

much smaller than Britons and Americans. The overall calories consumed are
lower. Also, eating high quality food that is palatable can help a person stop
from feeling deprived and overeating.
Nordic
| The platter includes rye
bread, oily fish, fruits such as rose hip, root vegetables and fermented milk
and cheese. A study in the 'American Journal of Clinical Nutrition' showed that
such a diet was comparable with he benefits of a Mediterranean one. It reduces
inflammation, which is often linked to chronic conditions and colon cancer. It
is also rich in fibre and low in sugar.
