RED FLAGS BEFORE FAILURE
1 INBOX WARRIOR
Are you always online? Do you usually read and
respond to e-mails instantly? You are firmly on the path to a major setback.
This habit prevents you from looking at the big picture, figuring out major
solutions, trying different tasks and learning new things every day. Force
yourself away from the inbox for 15 minutes at a time initially.
2 CLOSED CIRCLE
Who do you talk to at the workplace and who do you
avoid? Are you speaking to the same closed circle of people and avoiding others
because you dislike them or get stressed out? You will experience failure often
because of your lack of exposure, information and support. Communicate often
outside your comfort zone.
3 IKIA – I KNOW IT ALL
How often do you ask for help? Do you tend to rely on
your own research, experiences and analysis to solve problems and reach goals?
Your success is, therefore, limited by your abilities. That’s a recipe for
getting into sticky situations which are not covered by your solo skills. Try
less of IKIA and a more collaborative approach.
4 MS PERFECTIONIST
“I do everything. I do it best.” If this is your
credo then the chances are that you believe in perfect output, hesitate to
delegate and get involved in micro-management while losing track of the big
picture. Know that when you allow yourself and others to achieve good and not
perfect results, you fail less often.
5 FAIL FREE
If you have never failed or have failed rarely, it is
the biggest setback to your career that you don’t know of. Do you choose your
projects/ teams/ bosses with great care so that you avoid failure? Being too
riskaverse, means your experiences and learnings are fewer and you fail
miserably when you are in an unknown territory.
