9 ways that the world’s most popular browser is changing
Your favourite
browser now has a new look, gets things done faster, has its password manager
updated, throws smart answers and more
Such is the popularity of Google’s Chrome web browser
that it lords over the competition. Almost 60 per cent of web browsing across
the world happens on Chrome. So, when new features on it are announced, it
certainly piques the curiosity. To mark Chrome’s 10th anniversary, Google has
introduced a host of new features that will be rolling out to users soon.
Here’s all that is new with Google Chrome:
Search bar to get faster, better
Google’s search bar — which incidentally is called
Omnibox — is now smarter and will be able to autocomplete queries and give
answers faster.
Tabs to get a new look
Now when you open a tab on Chrome, you will notice
that the active tab has got curved corners. The other tabs, on the other hand,
will have a slightly faded background. This, according to Google, has been done
to recognise websites easily when you have multiple tabs open.
Simpler and faster search
options
A lot of things in the new Chrome have been
simplified by Google to allow a faster search. The prompts, menus and URLs in
the address bar have now been simplified for fast browsing.
Advanced built-in password
manager
It’s a feature that was first seen with Safari,
Apple’s browser but now can be found in Google Chrome as well. Chrome will
automatically suggest a ‘better and safer’ password in case you put ‘password’ or
any other easily guessable password.
Auto-fill feature to get an
upgrade
When you are filling out details on a site which
you’ve already done in the past on another website, Google has made that more
accurate across websites. It will save time and effort for a lot of users.
Search in Google Drive right
from Chrome browser
For those who use Google Drive a lot, this feature is
a godsend. Users will soon be able to search for what’s in their Google Drive
right through the search bar.
Searching for tabs just got
easier
At times, users have dozens of tabs open and in
different Chrome browser windows and you forget if you already have it open.
Chrome will now tell you if have that link open or not.
Customisation of tabs and
shortcuts
A lot of users create a shortcut for links to
websites they often use. With the updated browser, you can now customise those
links, for example by adding an image to that shortcut.
Something new for Apple users in
Chrome for iOS
For those on iPhone or iPad, they will now see tabs
as thumbnails and not panels. For instance, if you want to switch from one tab
to another, you will see a thumbnail of a tab.
