MBA SPECIAL .................What recruiters look for

What recruiters look for

A survey of 1,320 recruiters from more than 600 companies around the world who regularly recruit MBA students, ranking 122 international business schools based on how well their students meet the needs of the market has revealed that some highly sought-after skills are missing among fresh graduates. Conducted by Bloomberg Businessweek end of last year, the survey reveals that skills such as strategic thinking, creative problem solving, leadership and communication skills, are in short supply.
On the other hand, skills such as risk taking abilities, decision-making, global mindset, entrepreneurship, quantitative skills and motivation are highly common among graduates but less desired by industry.
Here is the industry-wise break-up of the most-wanted and hardest-to-find skills:
Consulting creative problem-solving, strategic thinking and communication skills Healthcare and energy leadership skills Technology communication, leadership and creative-problem solving Consumer products and manufacturing strategic thinking Finance communication, strategic thinking and mo tivation drive The recruiters also scored MBA programmes on their success at turning out graduates with the most sought-after skills.
According to recruiters
1.    Western Ivey is considered strongest at teaching leadership, strategic thinking, communication and collaboration skills.
2.    MIT (Sloan) topped the recruiters' list of teaching analytical thinking and
3.    UT Dallas (Jindal) is credited with imbibing creative problem-solving abilities amongst it students.
4.    Rotman School of Management ranked highly for its ability to inculcate motivation drive among students.
Says Sharon Irwin-Foulon, executive director, Career Management, Ivey Business School at Western University, “For the most part, the report outlines what most organisations we work with are looking for in a very succinct way. Having said that, how the candidates shape and demonstrate these skills is a key differentiator.“
