GADGET
GIZMO SPECIAL GIZMOS TO COOL YOU DOWN
A collection of gadgets to
help you dust the summer heat...
The weather gods, it seems, have
decided to bake us in their fiery oven. Still, what has to be done is being
done. Moms sweat it out in the kitchen every day while the grannies water the
bonsai in the front lawn, even as dads keep pressing that `minus' sign on the
airconditioner remote in the hope that the temperature will miraculously drop
below 16 degrees.
Unfortunately, nothing is helping
anyone cope with the heat. Thankfully, there are a few gadgets available (on
the internet) that will grant you some respite from this burning cauldron.
RANGE OVEN INTELLIGENCE
Don't confuse a smart food ther
mometer with food thermometers that are traded on bays. It connects to your
phone through Bluetooth and constantly pushes notifications about the precise
temperature of the food being cooked in the oven through an app. You don't need
to stand like the Sworn Brothers of the Night's Watch in front of the grill to
ensure that the chicken isn't overcooked. Also, it raises an alarm on your
handset whenev er the temperature rises above the level set by you. It notifies
you when you leave the oven on while stepping out of the home, and `saves' the
temperature activity pattern so that you can repeat your favourite dishes with
precision.
Works with iOS and Android; yearlong
battery life, can sustain high temperatures.http:www.amazon.com Price: `4,475

SENSIBO
It turns any remotecontrolled air
conditioner into a smart one! The idea behind Sensibo (crowdfunded in July
2014) is to guarantee that at any given point of time, your room is just the
right kind of cool. So, when you return from office, the air-conditioner should
be running at 16 degrees because you are sweating your skin out; but when it's
time for you to wake up in the morning, the room is somewhat warmer. There is no
complicated installation process, all you need to do is stick this appliance on
your airconditioner, and you are good to go. The icing on the cake is that
Sensibo helps you reduce your carbon imprint by 40 per cent. Do check out their
amazing product videos on their website, it was one of the funniest pitch
videos of last year. Just in case you don't recognise the man in the video,
it's Michael Harpaz from the legendary Hi 5 band.

ANYWHERE FRIDGE
This might not look fancy, but on
the scale of functionality, it's a winner. Just in case, it's not a sunny day
(chances of which are rare now), this solar power fridge can be charged via the
car charging port. Unlike other delicate refrigerators, the Anywhere Fridge is
made of steel, which makes it rugged and weather-resistant. The feature that
completely wins you over though is that it's completely collapsible and can be
dragged on wheels like a suitcase! Preorder at http:www.indiegogo.com Price: Rs

EDYN
It can be a pain in this heat to go
outside every day and check the growth of the plants, or assess the soil
condition. To help you out, there's a smart garden sensor, Edyn, which assesses
soil nutrients, tracks weather conditions and calculates the severity of the
sunlight. Using all this data, this sensor tells you which plants are best
suited to the soil conditions in your lawn. It also informs you when you should
harvest, as well as manages the sprinkler system to control over or under
watering of the plants.
