5 APPS TO GET THINGS DONE
It's 2015 and more people are replacing their
pen and paper planners with mobile phones and tablets. While most mobile
platforms come with rudimentary tools for organising your life, there are a
number of GTD (get things done) apps that offer special features including
ubiquitous ac cess across different devices.
Here are five apps that will make life easier
for you...
ANY.DO
A versatile task management app, Any.do lets you
create task lists to plan your day better. You can set location and time-based
reminders for your lists, add pictures, videos, comments and voice notes and
collaborate with friends, colleagues and family members by sharing lists. It
syncs lists to the cloud, which means they are saved across devices
automatically. It also supports speech recognition so you can dictate task
lists. The app's clean user interface and support for swipe gestures are its
key highlights. The premium version supports UI themes, customisable reminders
and priority support.
IFTTT
IFTTT or `If this then that', is a web-based
service that lets you perform certain tasks when another event is triggered. It
works through instructions known as `Recipes' that help you automate tasks. You
can create your own recipe or browse through popular ones created by other
users. For instance, you can choose to add invoices that you receive via email
to an online Google spreadsheet or save your Facebook photos to Dropbox.
However, you'll need to sign-in to each service
or `channel' to activate it.
INBOX
BY GMAIL
Google's Inbox is Gmail on steroids. It not only
makes managing and prioritising email a breeze but is also an organiser that
pulls out actionable information to make life easy. The app bundles similar
messages together and highlights useful information from your email messages
such as boarding passes, bills and invoices, and photos from friends, without
the need to open the respective emails. It even lets you set reminders and
snooze emails you wish to reply to at a later date, time or place.
EVERNOTE
Evernote is one of the most popular note-taking
app.
Offering support for most e: desktop and mobile
operat ing systems, the app allows you to take notes, add lists, pictures,
audio and video clips on the go and save them to the cloud. You can organise
your notes into different notebooks and tag them for easy access and search.
Since the notes are online, they are synchronised across all your connected
devices automatically. The paid version of the app offers offline access to all
notebooks, a better search experience, a PIN lock and ability to add high
resolution images to your notes.
CLEAR
A to-do and reminders app with a difference, the
USP of the Clear app is its minimalist design and gesture based interface. You
simply pull down to add a new to-do item or reminder and swipe right to
complete it. It syncs data online to your iCloud account across your iPhone,
iPad and Mac. The app also supports the Today View widget on iOS 8 to see
upcoming reminders without going into the app.
