LinkedIn Top Companies 2017: Where India wants to work now.. 16 TO 20

16.CISCO..COMPUTER NETWORKING
Cisco is moving beyond its core router and switch businesses. It recently sealed a $3.7 billion deal to buy AppDynamics, snapping up the software unicorn before its planned IPO. Cisco is also moving into subscription sales and other sources of recurring revenue. Those plans require a robust hiring outlook. As of February, it had some 3,200 open positions globally, and Cisco says it’s particularly looking for security, programming and solutions sales expertise.
Number of global employees: more than 73,000
Popping up in surprising places: Cisco’s engineers do everything from preventing nasty security threats to securing communications during emergencies, like earthquakes and hurricanes.
Giving back: In 2016 alone, employees logged over 227,000 volunteer hours, and the company gives staffers five paid days to do volunteer work.

17.IDFC BANK..FINANCIALSERVICES
IDFC Bank, part of IDFC Ltd. group, stresses on its youth. The bank, launched in Oct. 2015, is among the newest in India and tells LinkedIn it attracts those looking to shake up the industry’s “age-old conventions.” Its employees benefit from perks that begin even before the first day: New hires receive a pre-loaded gift card so they can have coffee with friends, “telling them about the exciting new bank they are about to join.”
Number of local employees: 4,000
A new job in 140 characters: Last year, the company asked for applicants to submit their Twitter resume. “All candidates had to do was to tweet us in the classic 140-character limit pitching why we should hire them,” an effort that got a great response, the company says.
Where it’s hiring: The company forecasts 1500 job openings in the coming year; “the primary areas of focus will be the front-line and operations roles.”
Editor's note: The Top Companies list is the first ranking of its kind to be based entirely on actions of users. Our insights team, working with our global editorial team, analysed literally billions of actions taken by our 500+ million members to come up with a blended score that we used to rank the winners in each geography. As with all LinkedIn Lists, LinkedIn and Microsoft are excluded from consideration.

18.WIPRO..IT AND SERVICES
\The IT services provider — among the world’s largest — knows the needs of clients can quickly change. So Wipro is working to help its employees update their skills; in the last fiscal year, it provided digital training for 39,600 employees, teaching many Python, Java and other programming languages. The industry faces challenges, but Wipro’s history is defined by change; it got its start in 1945 as a vegetable oils manufacturer and kept evolving.
Number of global employees: more than 170,000
Full transparency: The company posts every open job, making it easier for employees to see available positions and determine their next move.
New look: The company recently rebranded itself to reflect its changing business, abandoning its iconic rainbow flower in favor of a system of concentric rainbow dots.

19.TATA COMMUNICATIONS..TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Telecom giant Tata Communications says its culture is built on openness. One example: “Any employee at any time can directly block time with our CEO, Vinod Kumar, for a chat about the organisation,” the company tells LinkedIn. The firm encourages innovation in all forms, even hosting a competition that invited employees’ children to submit ideas on how tech could improve the world, an initiative “received with great enthusiasm,” the company says.
Number of local employees: 8,900
What it hopes to see in applicants: Innovation, its CEO says, begins with curiosity and a desire to learn. So the company screens for skills and experience, of course, but also personality. “We look for passion.”
Family time: The company offers flexible leave policies for employees caring for young children — and the elderly.
20.VODAFONE..TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Vodafone, India’s second-largest telecom operator, embraces a culture of change. On a list of values guiding employees, it cites speed first; the company says it refuses to “allow the fear of failure to get in our way.” Some recent innovations include SuperWifi, a secure enterprise-level wireless network, and a new money-transfer feature. It also aims to create a fun workplace, organizing employee cricket matches, music lessons, dance classes and more activities.
Number of global employees: more than 107,000
Career explorer: Vodafone uses an internal career opportunity process to encourage employees to make lateral moves across functions and locations.
Maximize that potential: The company offers various training opportunities for employees of all skill levels; one programme, called Lighthouse, takes high-potential senior leaders through a 12-month series aimed at boosting their leadership skills.
