Follow a
suitable diet after an illness for a quick recovery
ILLNESS CAN truly
incapacitate you, so it’s important that you follow the correct diet as you
recover. The idea is to make the recovery period quick.
While basics like fresh
air, sunlight, and a positive frame of mind work wonders, your body also needs
specific vitamins and minerals to help repair tissues and build immune cells.
Here are some tips for a healthy recovery.
FOR FRACTURES
Multigrain dalia,
sunflower seeds and flaxseeds for minerals.
Ragi atta, paneer and
cheese for calcium.
Sprouts, eggs and fish
for protein.
Chyawanprash twice daily.
FOR STOMACH/ INTESTINAL/ LIVER PROBLEMS
Barley for the liver.
Aloe vera juice for liver
and stomach disorders. Turmeric (for the intestines and stomach).
Probiotic drinks (for intestine
and stomach).
Amla and citrus fruits
for liver disorders (but avoid these for acidic and ulcerrelated disorders).
A ginger decoction with
honey for liver disorders.
FOR FEVER AND GENERAL WEAKNESS
Soup made of pumpkin with
black channa, or chicken broth with vegetables.
A ginger-honey decoction
twice a day.
Fruits like pomegranate
and stewed apples.
Rice khichdi with a
little white butter.
POST-SURGERY
Avoid vat
(air)-increasing foods like tea and coffee.
Drink coconut water for
its electrolytes. Khichdi with white butter. Vegetable soups with added black
gram water or barley water. Chicken soup. Avoid food rich in sugar. Avoid curd
and ice-cream. Chyawanprash for the first week after surgery.
