The 7-inch display size for tablets is preferred by many because its easier to carry. However, not many 7-inch tablets offer a good display, top-notch hardware and great build quality. Google changed that with Nexus 7 last year and this is its successor with several upgrades inside and out.
Like the first Nexus 7, this one is also manufactured by Asus for Google. The design is improved and is similar to the Google Nexus 5 smartphone. It has a high quality display and a matte finish on the rear panel with an engraved Nexus logo. A white LED on the front panel is for notifications.
The display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels — the highest available on a 7-inch tablet. As expected, the display is gorgeous — playing games, watching videos as well as reading on it is a joy.
Under the hood is a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage (non expandable). Being a Nexus device, it comes with the latest Android OS (4.4) without any bloatware to slow it down. The result is blazing fast performance for games, apps or multimedia.
A 5MP rear autofocus camera shoots high quality full HD video and the stills are good for sharing on social networks. While the stereo speakers are impressive, we felt that the positioning was a bit awkward
; they are placed on the rear of the tablet, toward the edge — when held in landscape mode, the speakers get covered which muffles the sound.
Battery backup is fantastic — it lasted well over 10 hours with continuous full HD video playback. If you are on the look out for a 7-inch tablet, the Nexus 7 is highly recommended.
