Beamers
'n' Shakers
Wake
up with a ruthless alarm, shake your phone to send an SOS signal or use it as a
projector
Project Your Pictures
BeamAir is an iOS app that will let
you turn our Apple device into a projector. Here’s how it works: At one end,
you need BeamAir, say on an iPad or iPhone. It was free at the time of this
review. At the other, all you need is a browser. Now that means, you can beam
images instantly anywhere to any device that’s connected. You fire up the app
and start a new photo session. This generates a code that you can share with
anyone. The audience just has to open a browser and enter the ID into
BeamAir.com. And they will begin to see whatever you are sharing, such as
photos from your camera roll. You could beam it across the world, or to a big
screen in the same room, using it as a projector. You get 500 credits when you
download the app, one for each image. But thereafter, you pay to get more.
Merciless Alarm Clock
Phones, even the not very smart
ones, have taken over the job of alarm clocks for years now. But I didn’t
realise they were getting as clever as Wake N Shake, an iPhone app . This app
will make sure you get up fully and don’t lounge around to get back to sleep
after a lazy swipe to turn the sound off. It forces you to shake the phone
quite hard and for quite a while until it shows a healthy shake percentage on
screen and finally switches off. This should wake up most of the people who are
slow to move in the morning. There are a lot of amusing alarm tones to choose
from, including a leery Spanish flirt going on and on about how he could teach
you the salsa. The Wake N Shake app has a great interface. There’s a one-tap Quick
Nap screen you can pull down from the top, activating it as a timer. It
costs Rs 110 on the App Store.
Shake For Help
|
An
Andriod app, descriptively titled SOS – Stay Safe! should help women, the
elderly, or anyone really, get an alert out in case of trouble. Made by
developers Extentia, this app lets you set a list of phone numbers and email
addresses you can tap if you’re in trouble.
Usually, if someone attacks you, there’s no time to look for the appropriate app, and then click it. So, what the app does is trigger off SMS and email messages when you shake it. You can set the shake sensitivity while initially setting up the app. Once shaken, the app will send your GPS coordinates, your remaining battery level and a message that you’re in trouble to your selected contacts. The messages will go out at regular intervals in case you’re on the move — or being forced to be on the move.
