TECH REVIEW ..........Spice Pinnacle FHD Mi-525

TECH REVIEW Spice Pinnacle FHD Mi-525

A full HD display is usually the preserve of high-end (read: 30,000 plus) smartphones. The new Spice FHD Mi-525 is one of the few midrange offerings that offer the same kind of display. But the display alone doesn’t make a desirable smartphone, so what about all the other bits?
The device is candybar shape with black-white colour scheme — this is the only colour. The white back panel is removable and under it you’ll see the dual SIM slots (both with 3G data support), micro SD slot (upto 32GB supported) and removable 2,100 mAh battery. Around the back is the 8MP camera and dual LED flash.
Thankfully, the usual Android menu, home and back are present as capacitive buttons below the display — some phones integrate these into the display, reducing the usable area — here, you get the full 5-inch screen for videos, photos, games, apps and web.
We liked the camera performance outdoors — a bit of shutter lag was noticeable though. Spice claims 1080p video at 30fps, but it actually did a ‘choppy’ 19fps. In 720p mode, we got a smooth 29fps. Battery life might be an issue for heavy 3G users, who might find that it lasts less than a full day. We had no complaints with performance and call quality.
Now the competition in the price range of 15 to 20k is fierce. If a full HD screen is what you crave but can’t see yourself spending in excess of 30k, then the Spice FHD is for you. You can also take a look at iBerry’s Auxus Nuclea N1 which offers similar specs for a similar price. If the 1080p screen is not that big a deal, you can consider the cheaper Micromax Canvas HD (with quad core and 720p screen). Finally, if you need a 5-inch screen from Samsung, consider the Galaxy Grand.
