TECH REVIEW ............ HTC Desire 600

TECH REVIEW    HTC Desire 600
PRICE 26,990
SPECIFICATIONS 1.2GHz quad core, 1GB RAM, Adreno 203 graphics, Android 4.1, 4.5-inch SLCD 2 display (960 x 540 pixels), 8GB + micro SD, 8MP rear + 1.6MP front camera, Beats Audio, 1860 mAh battery, 130g SLCD screen, fluid Sense 5 interface, dual speakers Glossy plastic rear, does not capture 1080p video (max 720p), only 960 x 540 px screen & 8GB storage, nothing extraordinary for the asking price

There’s a very wide range of dual SIM Android phones out there, some starting under 4,000. HTC’s Desire 600 sits at the other end of the price range though. It’s an attractive design, thanks to the tapered edges, red highlights and brushed metal edge. Flip it over though, and the glossy white plastic casing looks cheap in comparison — surely not worthy of a 27k phone! The screen is the saving grace though; the SLCD 2 screen rivals amoled screens in terms of contrast plus has great colours and viewing angles.
The device itself is ‘conventional’ HTC — two capacitive buttons, power button on top and volume rocker on the right side. However, remove the back cover and you’re greeted with swathes of red — this part looks rather nice we thought — just a shame that it’s always completely covered up with the white plastic.
There are a few features that this device shares with HTC’s flagship. For instance, the Sense 5 interface and BlinkFeed (news updates on the home screen) is carried over from the HTC One and works rather well. It also has front-facing dual speakers (BoomSound in HTC parlance). We saw no slowdowns with day-to-day usage.
The camera does not feature UltraPixel technology — instead, it’s a conventional 8MP rear camera that can record up to 720p video. Camera quality was good with adequate light, but there was a fair bit of shutter lag. The battery should last about a day with normal usage.
If you don’t need dual SIMs, why not consider the HTC One X? It slightly cheaper, has a unibody design, double the storage, larger & better screen plus overall better performance. Samsung’s Galaxy S3 is also a good buy — priced roughly the same after price cuts. And if dual SIM quad core is what you need, get Panasonic's P51.
