SMARTPHONE Intex Aqua i5
PRICE 11,900
SPECIFICATIONS 5-inch (960 x 540 pixels), 1.2Ghz quad core, 1GB RAM, 4GB storage + MicroSD, 12MP rear + 2MP front cam, 2,000mAh battery, Android 4.2 Performance, slim design, battery backup, software enhancements Display with qHD resolution, low speaker output, reflective screen, glossy
The Aqua i5 is Intex’s newest offering in the rapidly expanding segment of quad core Android smartphones with a 5-inch display. Although the slim form factor of the smartphone is impressive, we did find that the volume and power buttons were too narrow for comfortable use.
The plastic back cover feels fragile and is a fingerprint magnet. Even the display on front is reflective which makes it hard to view under direct light. A good thing is that the device has the touch sensitive Android button below the display. This means you get the entire 5-inch screen estate for your use. Although the touch response is good, the 960 x 540 pixel resolution of the phone is a slight disappointment
Mediatek’s quad core processor and 1GB RAM gives smooth performance and scored an impressive 13166 on the AnTuTu benchmark. The 12MP rear camera is good for taking pictures in daylight, but suffers from visible noise indoors and in low light conditions. Audio output from the external speaker is low – enough only for personal listening.
The user interface is close to stock Android, but Intex has added a few useful enhancements such as flip to mute, voice unlock and auto call record. A battery saver mode is also present, which when enabled, limits the maximum CPU performance to boost battery life. We did notice the battery lasting an extra hour or two when this feature was enabled. In general usage, the battery is good enough for a single day.
At its price of 11,900, the Intex Aqua is a good Android device. However, it faces stiff competition from the Zen Ultrafone 701HD that has a better resolution display and a better performing camera with the same hardware specifications.
