Best one-on-one podcasts for 2019
Podcasts are a
great way to pass the time, whether you’re commuting, working, or relaxing.

The term ‘podcast’ is — and always was — a misnomer.
Podcasts aren’t exclusive to iPods — or any particular device. A better term
would be on-demand radio. And like any other on-demand content, they work on
nearly every platform. If you are looking for some new content for the year
ahead, here is a list of podcasts that are worth checking out. They include
iTunes and Google Play pages for each podcast, but the content is accessible on
any device.
Fresh Air
Terry Gross is one of the best interviewers in the business. And
like most public radio shows, her one-on-one broadcast Fresh Air is available
as a podcast. It’s a magazine of contemporary arts and issues and features
intimate conversations with today’s biggest luminaries.
Love + Radio
The podcast features in-depth conversations exploring all of
life’s grey areas on an eclectic range of subjects, from the seedy to the
sublime. Host Nick van der Kolk and producer Brendan Baker craft every episode
of this award-winning podcast.
The Joe Rogan Experience
Comedian and mixed martial arts enthusiast Joe Rogan hosts a
variety of guests who appear to discuss topics as varied as martial arts,
astrophysics, acting and consciousnessexpanding medicinals. Launched in
December 2009, it is a long-form conversation.
The Moment with Brian Koppelman
The Moment with Brian Koppelman is an interview podcast that
explores the world of entertainment and celebrity, usually taking an
introspective turn. Formerly part of Grantland, it has since moved to Slate.
Koppelman, also known for his Vine series ‘Six Second Screenwriting Lessons’,
digs into what makes people tick and what drives them to continue their
creative work.
WTF with Marc Maron
One of the pioneers of the genre, comedian Marc Maron has helped
define what podcasting can be. Each show opens with a humorous — and often
exceedingly personal — monologue followed by an indepth conversation with a
guest.
You Made It Weird
If you like to go deep and have two hours to kill, then comedian
Pete Holmes’s exhaustive one-on-one interview series is for you. Not only do
Holmes and guest go into biography and career, they usually veer into
philosophy and nature of existence (every episode usually features the question
‘what do you think happens after you die?’).
