HABITS SPECIAL..... Habits that can break you

Habits that can break you

Bad habits can do much more damage at work than you anticipate.
Follow these tips to play it safe

Annoying your boss with your unprofessional hab its could cost you your job. Avoid letting your bad habits get the best of you. Demonstrate the following professional behaviours at work.

Showing up late to work
“Punctuality is critical,“ said Rosalinda Oropeza Randall, an etiquette and civility expert. “The professional thing to do is to arrive on time, ready to do what is expected,“ she says. Similarly, being late for meeting shows that you don't respect your co-workers and the meeting organiser.
“Keeping people waiting can be construed as inconsiderate, rude, or arrogant,“ said Randall.

Being negative all the time
Repeatedly responding to suggestions with a pessimistic or contrary attitude can be construed as being uncooperative. A recent survey showed that 62 per cent of employers are less likely to pro mote employees who have a negative or pessimistic attitude.

Talking about political issues
“Before you pull up your soapbox, you should be aware that in most cases, free speech in the workplace is limited or non-existent when it comes to controversial movements or topics,“ said Randall.
As an employee expressing yourself at work, it turns out you have fewer protections than you'd think -and if your boss doesn't like what they hear, you could get fired for it.

Spouting off on social media
Your company may have a specific policy outlining how you may use social media, so it's always a good idea to get acquainted with your employee handbook.
But generally, many employers take a negative view when you use social media to complain about your boss, co-workers, or clients, share company secrets, represent the company in a negative way, or make offensive comments.

Practising poor hygiene and grooming
You want to look like you take your job seriously when you walk into work, and your hy giene and appearance play a role in that. Your boss may wonder whether your attitude about how you present your self extends to your work and you may be passed over for a promotion, overlooked when it's time to meet with a client or rep resent the company at a conference, and not invited to social gatherings.
Being a slob
“Whether you're at your desk or in the break room, being known as the office slob is never a compliment,“ said Randall. Leaving your mess behind shows a lack of responsibility and depicts arrogance and immaturity. Similarly, your workspace can be a reflection of you.

Discussing personal problems
There are two problems that come from openly discussing your divorce at work: First, you just don't look like you are actively employed when you spend hours a day dishing about your ex. Second, you're discussing a personal problem at the office when you're supposed to be a maestro at solving problems.

Swearing
Using foul words or questionable language is considered unprofessional. Swearing demonstrates that you aren't able to calmly and thoughtfully deal with a situation.
