GADGET GIZMO SPECIAL
10 Hot Products From IFA 2015

IFA or Internationale Funkausstellung in Berlin keeps up its promise
of being one of the largest trade shows for consumer electronics and
appliances. Unlike CES, IFA is open to the public and is one of the
oldest of its kind: it first opened its doors in 1924.
Hitesh Raj Bhagat brings you some of the interesting international
launches from the event

ACER PREDATOR 8
Acer's predator lineup of devices have always been meant for gamers.
With the Predator 8 tablet, Acer is now turning their focus to mobile gamers.
The 8-inch gaming tablet that the company showed off at IFA weighs 350 grams
and features an 8-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with 100% color gamut
accuracy. The four red grills on each corner are not just for design: they house
four front facing speakers for a virtual surround sound experience while gaming.
It is also the first tablet to come with an Intel Atom X7 processor, also used in the
Microsoft Surface 3. Other specifications include 2GB RAM and 32GB storage
(expandable, up to 128GB cards are supported). Finally, the feather in the hat
is Acer's TacSense -it provides vibration feedback while gaming, quite like
game console controllers.

LENOVO YOGA TAB 3 PRO
The latest flagship tablet from Lenovo, Yoga Tab 3 Pro features built-in
 projector
capable of projecting a 70-inch screen. This time though, the projector lens
is much better placed -you can keep the display straight while projecting
a screen.
In terms of specs, you get a 10.1-inch display (2560 x 1600 pixels),
a quad core Intel Atom processor, 2GB RAM, 1632GB storage variants
and a 10,200mAh battery (up to 18 hour battery life). Aimed at multimedia
consumption, it features 4 front facing JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos
for a premium audio experience. It weighs less than 700 grams, has an
aluminum body, expandable storage, leather finish back panel and comes
with dual cameras (13MP rear, 5MP front).

SAMSUNG GEAR S2
This is the first watch in Samsung's Gear line of smartwatches with a circular
display. The watch runs Samsung's own Tizen OS and has a 1.2-inch super
amoled display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The highlight is the
rotating bezel around the display that makes navigation a breeze.
Another big change is that the Gear S2 can be used with any Android
smartphone and not just Samsung. Inside is a 1.0Ghz dual core processor,
512MB RAM, 4GB storage and 250mAh battery (claimed 3 day battery life).
Samsung will launch the S2 in two variants: standard (dark grey dial case
with black silicon bandsilver case with white silicon band) and classic
(black dial case with black leather band). It is IP68 certified for resistance
against dust and water and features hardware buttons for back and
 home functions.

LENOVO THINKPAD YOGA
ThinkPad is the name given to Lenovo's legendary business laptops
(it inherited the name after the acquisition of IBM's PC business in 2005).
Yoga is the name given to the company's consumer pioneering range of
`flexible' devices -Yoga laptops have screens that can articulate in different
directions to make a laptop, a tent, help them fold flat or become a tablet.
The ThinkPad Yoga marries these two lines because some of their business
customers wanted this flexibility. Importantly, you don't lose attributes of
either line: it's still a ThinkPad, with the excellent spill resistant keyboard,
 trackpoint and durability.
There are two versions: a 12.5-inch (ThinkPad Yoga 260)
 and a 14-inch (ThinkPad Yoga 460).

TOSHIBA SATELLITE RADIUS 12
Quite like Lenovo's Yoga, the Radius 12 is a convertible with a 360-degree
 hinge.
This means that you can use it like a laptop, lay it flat on a table, use it as a
tabletop (tent mode), for presentations and as a tablet. The difference is that
the Radius 12 has a 4K screen (3840 x 2160 pixels) and it's the first
convertible with this feature. In addition, the screen's colour gamut is
certified by Technicolor to reproduce 100 percent of Adobe's RGB colour
space.
Some might call the screen overkill but it has the specs to back up the screen.
It's powered by the latest 6th generation Intel Core processors and supports
Windows Hello (the webcam lets you login with your face).

SONY XPERIA Z5 PREMIUM
Although Sony has launched three phones under the Xperia Z5 moniker
(Xperia Z5, Z5 compact and Z5 premium), the Premium is the one that stands
out. It is the word's first smartphone with a 4K resolution display: 5.5-inches
with 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution, giving it a staggering pixel density of
806ppi.
It's certified IP68 for dust and water resistance and has a stainless steel
frame  for durability. It comes with a new 23MP rear camera that has
phase detection autofocus and 4K video recording support.
 Specifications include a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 810
 processor, 3GB RAM,32GB storage and a 3,430mAh battery.

ACER REVO BUILD M1-601
Here's another world first: a completely modular desktop PC that you can
upgrade in a few seconds. It has a small footprint (125 x 125mm) and the
basic block is a functional computer with an Intel processor, Intel HD graphics
and up to 8GB RAM. Then you can add one or more hard drive blocks
(up to 3TB each) on top (each block is attached magnetically and a set of
pins makes the connection). You can simply add blocks on top as you go
along.
Some simply add blocks on top as you go along. Some of the options you
can  add include a DAC (for audio purists), a wireless charging block
(with a built in battery, charges Qi enabled phones), speaker block and
 a pico projector block.

ASUS GX700
This beast has some serious performance on offer -enough to warrant a
massive water cooling system. Water cooling is often reserved for high
performance gaming desktops this is certainly one of the world's first
laptops to feature it (Hitachi had pioneered the concept in 2002 but the
device was far too bulky to become mainstream). Asus uses a detachable
system. If you overclock your components and need the maximum
performance with stability, you use the water cooling. For portability,
 you can detach it.

LENOVO IDEAPAD MIIX 700
The Miix 700 is Lenovo's attempt at a Surface 3 clone, complete with rear
kickstand and magnetic keyboard dock. However, it uses the watchband
style hinge -which means that the kickstand can support the screen at any
angle. It will be available with Intel Core M7 processors, up to 8GB RAM
 and 256GB SSD. The 12-inch touchscreen has a resolution of 2160 x 1440
pixels and it weighs just 780 grams (with the keyboard dock).
Other features include dual cameras (5MP rear, 5MP front), a USB 3.0
and USB 2.0 port, microSD, microHDMI output as well as a microSIM slot
for data connectivity.Lenovo claims that the Miix 700 will have a
battery life of upto 9 hours.

RICOH THETA S
We recently reviewed the first Theta m15 camera by Ricoh.
It's a dual lens camera (dual 180 degree lenses), is shaped like a stick and it
helps you capture a spherical panorama with ease. In the review, we said
that “it's a hoot on special occasions -especially when there's lots of people
around. Looking back at the photos, you'll see things you didn't notice at the
time.“ All this holds true of this upgraded model and it addresses all the key
concerns: low resolution, choppy video and the lack of a dedicated button
to switch between photo & video modes.
The new S model captures stills at a resolution of 5376 x 2688 pixels
(as opposed to 3854 x 1792 pixels) and 1080p video at 30fps (vs 15fps).
In addition, storage has been bumped up to 8GB (from 4GB)
and video clip length is 25 minutes (up from 5 minutes).
