QUICK GETAWAY

FROM MUMBAI: DIVEAGAR TOWN, 200 KMS, 3 HRS
How about a picture perfect beach outing this weekend? The beach town of Diveagar is located off the Mumbai-Goa national highway and makes for a fun holiday spot with the entire family in tow. Apart from the clear waters and sandy shores, Diveagar also has a line up of coconut groves and beetle nut trees for nature enthusiasts. The best thing about this beach is that it is not as popular as some of its counterparts so you can enjoy a quiet and peaceful weekend as opposed to the crowded ambience of a well known tourist spot. You can also visit the nearby Lord Ganesha temple, which once was home to a pure gold idol. To enjoy the beauty of Diveagar, stay at the many beach resorts.
By road: Take the NH 17, and drive through Panvel-Pen-Kolad-Mangaon-Srivardhan/Harihareshwar before reaching Diveagar.
By rail: Nearest railhead is at Khed.
FROM DELHI: RAJAJI NATIONAL PARK, 230 KMS, 3 HRS 50 MINUTES

Wildlife enthusiasts must visit Rajaji National Park, a wildlife sanctuary that is situated right at the foot of the Himalayas. The sanctuary has been named after C Rajagopalachari, a freedom fighter and one of the first receivers of the Bharat Ratna. The uniqueness of this sanctuary is that it sprawls across three districts —Uttaranchal-Haridwar, Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal. In fact, it is a fusion of three wildlife sanctuaries, Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla, which were merged to form one single park in 1983. The main attractions in the park are distinct vegetation zones with more than 20 species of mammals and over 300 species of birds.
By Road: When driving from Delhi, take the bypass roads in Meerut and Muzaffar Nagar. You can stop for refreshments near Khatauli. It is advised to arrive at the national park well before sunset because the last eight km stretch is a dirt track. This track passes through a dense jungle and is inhabited by wild elephants.
By Rail: The railway station at Rishikesh is the closest though the one at Haridwar is known to be the most convenient to reach the national park.
