It’s a Girl thing!
KERALA: The state of Kerala boasts of the highest female to male ratio in the country and with many societies in the area still practicing matriarchy, it’s an agreed upon fact that it is a safe place for solo women travellers. The state offers a balance between tranquil beaches, lush hill stations, tea and spice plantations, wildlife reserves and ayurvedic spa facilities. Visit Kovalam, Varkala, and Muzhapilangad beaches for a break. In Munnar, Thekkady, Nelliyampathy and Wayanad, enjoy the crisp air of the high altitude at one of the many ayurvedic spas. Visit the Periyar Wildlife Reserve, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary and Parambikkulam Tiger Reserve or any of the 20 popular wildlife sanctuaries.
ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS:
Islands are not just romantic getaways... they are great destinations to explore by oneself, especially if you are a water baby. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are home to pretty docile natives and while female travellers by themselves may get a few stares, there’s nothing else to stop you from enjoying this archipelago at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Book into a beach side resort and sign up for a scuba diving course. The islands have a very unique and soon fading culture. During your trip to ‘Kala Pani’ (Andamans was once called that) make time to meet with locals and visit some of the the heritage structures including the Cellular Jail.
HAMPI, KARNATAKA:
The Vijaynagara Empire left in their wake a beautiful expanse of temples and palaces that dot the plains of the Hampi area of Karnataka. A popular destination for international travellers, the heritage site area offers stay options that range from hippie-colony style rooms to comfortable hotels. However, the fun is out there among the natural rock formations where ancient architecture stands proof to a long gone empire. Hire a cycle and wind your way through Virupaksha Temple, Hampi Bazaar, Monolith Bull, Lakshmi Narasimha temple and many other structures. End your day with dinner at one of the eateries in Virupapur Gaddi, popularly known as Hampi’s hippie island.
