FOOD SPECIAL..READY FOR A FRIDGE LEFTOVERS DATE?

READY FOR A FRIDGE LEFTOVERS DATE?

An online service abroad pairs singles based on their fridge food. Are Indians keen on finding someone with ‘that missing ingredient’?

Always turned up your nose at fridge food from the night before? You can stop now, for it’s the very thing that could put the mojo back into your love life! Say hello to innovative way of dating….via an online Swedish ‘Leftovers Dating Site’. It pairs suitors up with that last night’s cuisine. ‘Yummy ratatouille looking for left-over lasagna’ might not sound seductive at first, but it’s endearing enough say experts. While there’s been all kinds of quirky link ups with folks finding their partners based on car choices and holiday fantasies, ready for the fridge to play cupid, now?
How it works
As per the modus operandi on the site (called Restdejting, roughly translated as Leftover Dating), the suitors are asked to reveal five ingredients left in their fridge. These are published on a social networking site for others. In the speed-dating format, an ad from the site reds: “Leftover lettuce looking for steamed crab. Meal for three? Please let me know.” The other says: “Large walnut looking for strong cheese. Meal for two? Look forward to hearing from you!” Interestingly, there’s also a social angle to it. It calls attention to waste. A website mentions how a fifth of all food in Sweden ends up being thrown away. With the population of the city and the wastage that occurs, it seems like an idea that could well work in Mumbai?
Folks react
Foodie Kunal Vijaykar says he’s keen on the idea. “I’m really big on leftovers; dhansaaks, vindaloos etc, taste so much better as leftovers. I keep some of the food in my fridge for over a year, so I’ll be very happy to find someone with a similar thought on this leftovers website. The whole dating website arena is so huge now and I know couples who have had happy alliances because of these.” Actress Ira Dubey is sure such a dating concept will work well there. “Food is a wonderful binder and finding companions who enjoy food and discovering new places to eat is delightful. For leftover veggies, I’d grill them into a tasty sandwich; it’s exciting to share it with a significant other,” she ends.
Been on these dates yet?

• Airborne date: An airline aims to get like-minded travellers to strike a friendship with each other in a ‘seat-buddy system’. To make sure everyone sits next to their ideal companion, when a person buys a ticket, they tell their preferred ‘mood’ of travel, hobbies, etc.

• Equestrian date: A dating site for single horse lovers.

• Daily Diapers date: It’s a free community for adult babies and diaper lovers with a fetish for returning to their childhood! Ready to be spanked by a partner who calls herself ‘Mommy’?

• A vampersonal: You’ll find the Twi-hards here for sure! It’s a place to enjoy the ‘darker’ sides of (un)life.

• In Wealthy-ville: A Wealthy Men site is said to connect rich men and attractive women. Apparently the site even give women a ‘sugar daddy’ search option.
