This high-speed camera delivers unprecedented image
quality
It can shoot video
at 11,750 frames at FullHD, but it’s only for those with deep pockets
Here’s a camera that
won’t miss a detail. The Phantom v2640 from Vision Research can shoot at 11,750
frames per second at Full HD resolution. The company claims it’s the fastest
4-megapixel camera on the market.
To display the product’s capabilities, the company
recently showcased the camera in action to record a water balloon exploding in
slow motion. “With a maximum throughput of 26gigapixels/second even the
reflections on the drops of water are visible,” the company says. The product
is designed for researchers, scientists and engineers who need to record
high-resolution images at ‘ultra-high speeds’.
It can shoot up to a 2048X1952 resolution at 6,600
fps. Owners can also record at higher frame rates, by bumping the resolution
down. For instance, the camera can achieve an insane 303,460 fps when recording
at a 1792 by eight pixel resolution. Vision Research says the 17-pound camera
has exceptional light sensitivity. It has an ISO setting at 16,000D for the
monochrome model and 3,200D for the colour version.
The product can store up to 288GB of memory, and has
10GB Ethernet connection in the back. Unfortunately, the v2640 is quite pricey.
The camera reportedly starts at $135,000 and can reach as high as $175,000,
depending on how the model is customised.
As impressive as the product is, scientists have
developed other experimental cameras that can shoot at higher frame rates. In
2014, researchers in Japan developed one such camera that could capture 4.4
trillion fps at a 450X450 pixel resolution.
