STARTUP - HOW I GOT MY STARTUP IDEA
`NO ONE WAS CHANGING THE
WAY WE WATCH TV'
The idea: Sensara, remote
for smart TV
Eureka moment: Bharath
Kumar Mohan believed that innovation was overlooking that much-used gadget, the
television. So the ex-Googler decided to change the TV watching experience and
launched Sensy Remote, a wireless universal remote that converts a smartphone
into a remote control for all TVs and set-top boxes.
Early days: He launched the
company in January 2015 and raised $1 million in funding from angel investors,
including former Google India R&D head Lalitesh Katragadda. He also built
Adbreaks, an app that one can track while watching TV to know which channels
have ad breaks.
Now: Sensy Remote was
launched last year on Amazon's Launchpad.
The second iteration was
launched last month and sold 300 in a week.
Sensara aims to supply
3,000 more in the next few days. The company, which has 12 employees, plans to
launch a casting device soon.
