HOW I GOT MY STARTUP IDEA
`THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY REALLY
NEEDED A MAKEOVER'
STREAMLINING SALONS:
JIGYASA GUPTA
The idea: Be U Salons,
tech-enabled salon chain
Eureka moment: Jigyasa
Gupta started her career in real estate, and her last corporate job was at
Laurent and Benon Group. She always found that making appointments at the salon
were a headache. “My friend Shailendra Nagvani and I were talking about how
people were solving problems in every industry vertical except beauty. He said,
`Why don't we do something ourselves?'“ she says. Gupta quit her job in 2015 to
start Be U Salons.
Early days: They started an
online aggregator platform for salons but after talking to a few startups and
understanding their problems, they switched to a CRM system that helped owners
manage their salons by October 2016. In a few months, they realised that the
real solution lay in providing a platform that took care of all of it under one
brand.
Now: Be U Salons works as
an aggregated chain that takes care of salons' operations while allowing users
to book appointments on its platform.
The platform has around 40
salons in Delhi-NCR and has raised Rs 5 crore from a consortium of investors.
