The nemesis to Apple’s MacBook has arrived

At an event in China, Xiaomi introduced its first foray into
laptops called the Mi Notebook Air. Although, the laptops themselves come
with sought-after specifications, the most alluring aspect of these devices
would undoubtedly have to be the price tag: The Mi Notebook Air will be available
in two models, a 12.5-inch display priced at CNY 3,499 (approximately Rs
35,300), and slightly larger 13.3-inch version priced at CNY 4,999
(approximately Rs 51,400). If Xiaomi decides to launch these laptops at the
same price in India (even with another Rs 10,000 slapped on,) it would still
have arguably the best performance-to-price ratio compared to anything else
on the market.
Both devices feature a full metal body and a Full HD display.
These devices are obviously designed to compete with Apple’s MacBook Air, and
will be available in silver and gold color variants.
In terms of specifications, the devices runs Windows 10, feature
metal shells, and 1080p displays with slim bezels. The 13.3-inch model is
14.8mm thick and weighs 1.28 Kg. It is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor
along with 8GB DDR4 RAM. It includes a 256GB PCIe SSD with an SSD slot for
expansion. Xiaomi claims that the device will offer a 9.5-hour battery life,
and can charge to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
The 12.5-inch model weighs 1.07Kg and is powered by an Intel
Core M3 processor, with 4GB RAM and a 128GB SATA SSD, with an SSD slot for
expansion. At 11.5-hour, the device claims to offer an even better battery
life compared to to its larger sibling.
Both models also feature Mi Cloud Sync, which allows users to
sync their phone contacts, messages, gallery, notes, and other data to the
company’s cloud service. The company added that the laptops can also be
unlocked with the Mi Band 2 by simply keeping them in close proximity.
