SMARTPHONE BATTERY SPECIAL............ IMPROVE YOUR SMARTPHONE'S BATTERY LIFE

 IMPROVE YOUR SMARTPHONE'S BATTERY LIFE

"My phone has run out of charge" is a common refrain among smartphone users. What most do not understand is that multiple factors affect the phone's battery life. Karan Bajaj provides a checklist of tweaks that can go a long way in increasing a smartphone's battery power.

BACKGROUND APPS
Background apps eat up your battery by keeping the resources continuously engaged even when you are not using the phone. Closing the apps running in the background frees up your hardware resources. As the overall load on processor and RAM becomes less, it leads to an increases in your phone's battery life.

3GLTE CONNECTIVITY
If you switch off your data completely you will notice the battery life almost doubles. However, what use is a smartphone without data connectivity? If you keep data on 3G LTE mode, it consumes more battery life than 2G data. We recommend keeping 2G data when you just need to chat on WhatsApp or send emails. Switch to 3GLTE mode only when you require the high-speed to improve battery life.

DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS
Screen is one of the biggest battery consumption factors for smartphones. The higher the brightness of the display, the more power it draws from your battery. Even with autoadaptive brightness, the screen tends to keep drawing power randomly when the brightness increases. Switch to manual brightness control and keep it at around 30-40% brightness for efficiency.

GESTURE CONTROL
Touch and air gesture controls keep your sensors continuously occupied which in turn eat up the battery life. Head to your phone's settings and turn off gesture control--these features are not usually required on a regular basis so switching them off will not hamper your productivity either.

VIBRATIONHAPTIC FEEDBACK
Vibration as well as haptic feedback uses the built-in motor for notification. The vibrating motor draws its power from the phone's battery. While for incoming calls vibration notification might be required by most users, switching off haptic for keypress indication and incoming messages will add on to your battery life.

TURN OFF CONNECTIVITY
Connectivity features such as WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS if left powered on keep consuming battery in the background. WiFi for example has a setting that keeps searching for open WiFi network to connect continuously when left on. GPS keeps tracking your location for positioning on Google maps and other apps. When not being used, switch off these services to gain battery.

VOICE ASSISTANTS
Android smartphones come with always listening mode for voice control which activates when user says `Ok Google'. You can turn it off by going to the Google app and there head to Settings > Voice to switch “OK Google“ detection off.

AUTO UPDATE AUTO DOWNLOAD
App stores by default have the setting of auto update apps in the background when connected to WiFi. This means that every time your phone is connected to WiFi, it keeps checking for any available updates to installed apps and then updates them. Head to app store settings and turn-off auto update feature.
