TRAVEL SPECIAL .......... TRIM THE TRIP

 TRIM THE TRIP
Tips that save the earth (and your money too!)
  1. IN SWEDEN: If you are in a Swedish supermarket or store, look out for KRAV organic foods. Walk, cycle (Sweden is enormously bike-friendly) or take public transport – it works mostly on renewable energy.
2. IN BIG MUSEUM CITIES: Check the websites of the places you want to visit for deals, since entry fees can be high for foreign tourists. In expensive London, most museums are free. In New York, entry to some museums and attractions is free on certain days (For MoMA the magic hours are 4-8pm on Fridays). In Paris, the Louvre’s permanent collection is free to access on the first Sundays from October to March.
3. IN SWITZERLAND: You can hire bikes for free as part of the ecofriendly initiative Suisse Roule, so you can pedal through Bern, Lausanne, Zürich and Geneva. No membership necessary. Visit Schweizrollt.ch.
4. IN DUBROVNIK, CROATIA: The cable car that rises to the top of Mount Srd gives you spectacular views of the Old Town and the shoreline. Save on half the cost of the ticket by walking back down. And carry a bottle of wine or beer. The resto-bars at the top tend to be pricey.
