5 CHANGES FOR A
HIGH ENERGY LIFE
1 BREAKFAST
Never miss a breakfast. Even if you are not a morning
person and usually wake up at the last moment to rush to work, grab a banana on
your way out or buy a sandwich along the way. A regular scheduled breakfast
starts your day with a few hours of sustained energy levels, driving away the
tiredness which is often mistaken for boredom.
2 WALK
Find small opportunities to walk. Get off your bus
early and walk the rest of the distance. Walk around in the office corridor
when you are on the phone. Walk to the farthest water dispenser when you want a
drink of water. Walk briskly whenever you move around. This is your daily dose
of exercise that maintains your energy and health.
3 SLEEP
Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep every day for a week and
see the positive change. Get up at a fixed time each morning and train yourself
to hit the bed 7 to 8 hours prior. To do so, your life and people around you
may require significant communication and redesign so that all other stuff gets
done, expectations are met and yet each person avoids sleep deprivation.
4 GAMIFY
Thirty years of video and internet gaming have proven
that the brain needs stimulation that games provide. So, convert work
situations into games—full of levels to clear and achievements to collect.
Challenge a co-worker to see who finishes the same task in lesser steps or push
yourself to finish a sequence of events faster than before.
5 BREATHE
Remember to breathe. Use a breathing or meditation
app on your cell phone to understand the right technique of breathing in,
holding your breath and slowly breathing out. Meditation is simply focusing on
your breath. This reduces stress and keeps you productive and functional.
Regularly tuning helps you control long term stress.
