Is it time to change your job? (2)
If
you are underpaid, overworked or just plain bored with your job, here’s a guide
to changing the situation.
THIS SERIES OF ARTICLES LOOK
at why you should not resign yourself to this
misery.
2. Update
your online profile
A GROWING number of recruiters is tapping job portals for talent. Linkedin.com alone has some 2.5 crore users in India. To stand out in this crowd, your profile must have the necessary ingredients.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPH
A profile with a picture will get more views than others. Choose a simple mugshot, with you smiling. No informal photo or selfies. Somebody who looks professional is seen as reliable.
SHORT DESCRIPTION
Quite a few people just put their official designation and company’s name to describe their occupation. Instead, it is better to use keywords that the search engine will pick up and pitchfork your profile before the recruiter.
SUMMARY
Some TV ads captivate viewers while others make them switch channels. Your summary is also an ad—about yourself. You have to tell the recruiter in a nutshell everything you are. Write something that is not in your resume.
USE KEYWORDS
When recruiters look up candidates, the search engines pick up certain keywords in profiles. Use these terms if you want more views.
GET RECOMMENDATIONS
A valuable but little used tool. A recommendation from a former colleague or boss can be your stepping stone to a new job. Get each to write about a particular aspect about you or an experience.
