Build quality, superb display, fantastic performance, great camera, useful software enhancements
Uses a nano sim, no expandable storage, no TV out, average quality loudspeaker output
At a time when manufacturers are trying to lure consumers with big screens, the compact Moto X stands out. It is one of the few phones that is compact, well built and lightweight. We instantly loved the overall look and feel of the Moto X. It has a slight curve at the rear that makes it fit well in the palm. The bright 4.7-inch HD screen is super-sharp with great viewing angles and surprisingly slim bezels. Hardware include a 1.7Ghz dual core Snapdragon processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. These are not the best specifications in same price range — others boast of quad and octa core processors. That being said, Moto X proves that it’s not only about the hardware when it comes to performance. Since it is pure Android with no bloatware, the phone has a blazing fast user interface — faster even, than many premium octa core smartphones. Plus, it runs full HD videos & games like Shadowrun & Asphalt 7 without a hitch. The Moto X is made special by Google's enhancements that manage to deliver an improved user experience compared to devices loaded with bloatware. For instance, you can unlock and operate it with voice commands, the active display comes on automatically when you take it out of your pocket (with time and notifications) and it has a smart lock screen notification system that helps in battery management — you don’t need to unlock the device to view the details (drag the notification up for details). Finally, Motorola Assist reads out notifications when you are driving and the Motorola Connect function lets you reply to messages from your desktop using Google's Chrome web browser. The 10MP camera on the Moto X takes fantastic photos with sharp details, rich colours and minimal noise. It offers a slick interface, full HD video, slow motion video, focus and exposure control. Battery Life with regular usage is just over a day. Do keep in mind that it takes a nano Sim and does not have a microSD slot for expansion. Other than that, the Moto X proves to be a fantastic smartphone. Highly recommended.
