A lot of people love large screen phones – that much is a given. Samsung, having started the trend, has also capitalised on this with a slew of large screen phones like the Galaxy Mega and Grand series. The latest is the Note 3 Neo, which is a sort of ‘cut down’ version of the larger superphone. Thankfully, the Note 3 Neo retains the excellent pressure sensitive stylus that has made the Note series what it is today. Instead, to reduce the price somewhat, it cuts down on a lot of the other features that make the Note 3 so revered.
Visually, there’s not a lot to distinguish between the Note 3 and Note 3 Neo. Eagle eyed readers will notice that the ridged pattern around the sides of the original Note 3 is gone – that’s about it. TouchWiz remains the same and to its credit, effectively hides the fact that this large screen is not a full HD unit. Everything else works pretty much the same way as the Note 3 – including the S Pen, Air View and Air Command. You can expect the Neo version to trail the Note 3 because of the weaker processor and lower RAM. This is not necessarily a deal breaker though.
The problem with the Note 3 Neo is the price. At the time of writing, it is roughly 5,000 cheaper than the Note 3. It makes a lot more sense to just spend the extra cash and get the (slightly) bigger and better Note 3. For that matter, even the 30,000 Galaxy S4 seems like a better buy (if you don’t need the stylus) in terms of hardware specifications and camera. If you go for the flagship Note 3, you’ll get the Exynos octa core processor instead of hexa core, a 1080p screen instead of 720p on the Neo, 3GB RAM instead of 2GB, 13MP camera instead of 8MP, USB 3.0 instead of 2.0 and a lot of other smaller features. It’s well worth the extra money, we think.
