The mountain treks of
Garhwal
DHUMDHAR KANDI & BALI PASS
Region: Garhwal
How about taking up a challenge of treading on to a trail that is
not too frequented by tourists? We suggest you consider a trek to Dhumdhar
Kandi. It is steadily growing in popularity due to its wild flower meadows that
attract botanists to photograph a variety of alpine vegetation. Rare birds
chirping on branches of tall trees. On your trek you will explore mountains,
glaciers and snow fields.
BASECAMP FUN:
Good times begin right from the basecamp stage. Treading beautiful
forests and lush, you will be crossing rivulets on the way . Most guided treks
follow a camping stop at Kyarkoti Meadows. The next passage opens up snow
fields and you will ascend to upto 5,300 m. Next step is to climb down to
Ruinsara Valley and cross over to the other side of the river to reach upper
slopes of the Thangi Meadows. This is also the entry to the route leading to
Bali Pass.
BALI UDIYARI:
Gaining its name from a natural cave shelter, Bali Udiyari is
where the basecamp for Bali Pass is located. You will truly enjoy your time in
the meadows here. Interact with the shepherds to understand finer nuances of
mountain living and share a smile.
THE SUMMIT:
In the last stage of the trek, you will trek to the summit and
also cross over the Bali Pass. You will get to hike on top of a ridge leading
to the glacier just below the pass and from here it's a steep climb to the
top.Take a moment here to take in the sights of mountain ranges and underlying
valleys. Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini Peaks are close at touching distance.
Take some groups shots here and then prepare to descend to the campsite in
Damini. The entire camping group then moves to Jankichatti and onward drive to
Dehradun. On the way, don't miss stopping over at the Yamunotri Shrine and say
a silent prayer of thankfulness on completing the trek well.
