GIZMO SPECIAL Review: Lava Magnum X604
Price: Rs.11.999
5-inch displays are common in the sub
Rs 15,000 price range for phones, so Lava's Magnum X604 is trying to fill this
void by offering a large 6-inch display at a pocket-friendly price. It seems
like Lava has paid close attention to the design: the Magnum X604 is
premium-looking device. The massive 6-inch HD display, metal finish rim around
the device and matte finish on the rear panel are impressive.
However, the removable back panel tends to creak and bend when pressed. The display is good — sharp, rich colours and good brightness levels. We just wished the viewing angles were slightly better. The performance is disappointing. In terms of specifications, it runs the latest Android 4.4 on a 1.2Ghz quad core Broadcomm processor and 1GB RAM. However, the user interface is very sluggish.
There is visible lag and frame drops in the animations while navigating the app drawer and even switching between home screens. We installed the free Nova Launcher and even disabled a number of extra bloatware apps to solve the issue, but the sluggishness stayed. There were random frame drops in games like Subway Surfers and Temple Run 2. Multimedia performance was the saving grace. The rear camera takes good pictures in daylight and indoors — noise is only visible when viewed at 100% zoom. It even does full HD video recording in good quality. Audio output from both voice call and external loudspeaker is loud and clear. The 2,800mAh battery easily lasted us over a day with medium to heavy usage.
Overall, the Magnum X604 looks very impressive on paper, but it fails to live up to expectations, mainly because of the sluggish user interface. For the same price you can consider the Spice Pinnacle Stylus 5.5. This phone has a 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display and similar hardware, but offers much better performance.
