REVIEW Nokia Lumia 1020
The Lumia 1020 is the second phone from Nokia that boasts of a 41MP camera sensor after the PureView 808. It runs Windows Phone 8 OS and is of the same size as the Lumia 920, but weighs 158 grams (Lumia 920 is 185 grams). Flaunting a unibody design similar to the Lumia 920, the Lumia 1020 also has a polycarbonate body, but with a nice matte finish. When viewed from the front, it’s almost impossible to tell the Lumia 920 and Lumia 1020 apart. The only difference is visible when the display is switched on as the 1020 boasts of an 4.5-inch AMOLED display.
Living up to the hype around its 41MP camera with PureView technology and optical image stabilization, the Lumia 1020 delivers stunning photographs with sharp details and rich colours. Where it impresses the most is low light photography and upto 3X lossless zoom. Although low light images suffer from noise, they are clear enough to share on social network or view on a monitor.
Nokia’s Pro cam app offers various settings to tinker including ISO, exposure, white balance and shutter speed. You can even set manual focus and take images with a shutter speed of 4 seconds - very impressive for a phone. The only gripe is the minimum focusing distance due to which you cannot take macro shots – you can always zoom to focus on an object thanks to the 41MP sensor.
Overall performance is great and the battery life lasts one day. The biggest issue for this amazing camera phone is its steep price. In the same price, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or the Apple iPhone 5 offer much more features along with fantastic cameras. For camera lovers, Samsung's Galaxy S4 Zoom offers a 16MP camera with 10x optical zoom at a lower price.
SPECIFICATIONS 1.5Ghz dual core, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, 4.5-inch (1280 x 768) amoled, 41MP Pureview camera with Xenon flash, 1.2MP front cam, 2,000mAh, 158 grams
Superb camera, xenon flash, great camera app, unibody design, gorgeous display
Steep price, average battery life, no expandable storage
