HAPPY SITES
Positively uplifting
We all have those days when we can't see the silver lining. At such times, we may need to be reminded that the world is indeed a wonderful place. Here are a few portals to lift your spirits...
>> Gives Me Hope
GMH is a website that encourages people to share hopeful, uplifting moments from their lives. The submissions are one paragraph stories of friendship, true love and compassion - all ending with GMH.
Consider this one: "When my brother was in kindergarten, he couldn't stop talking about how cool and funny his best friend Jeremy is. When we met Jeremy, we saw he was in a wheelchair. On the way home, we asked my brother why he never told us that his friend was in a wheelchair. He simply said, 'Because it isn't important'. My brother's acceptance GMH. "
The site also has sister properties:
kidsgivemehope. blogher. com and love. givesmehope. com - great resources for
days when you see the glass as half empty. www. givesmehope. com
>> Help Others
Help Others is full of true instances of random acts of kindness. You can post your own, and even read other people's experiences. It even has a 'Kindness Ideas' section with suggestions for those "who want to do something kind, but can't think of what to do".
And if you're serious about getting in on the scene, you can even download free Kindness Cards and have them printed. The whole idea is to do something wonderful for someone and then leave them a card, asking them to pay-it-forward to keep the kindness going.
Indeed, this site is all about a Kindness Revolution, one person at a time. Of course, you can also subscribe to the site's newsletter to receive daily inspiration right in your inbox. www. helpothers. org
>> Positively Positive
Positively Positive is a collection of blog posts, videos, and handpicked quotations that are designed to remind readers that there is good in every situation and in every person. Visitors will find incredible stories of people who have overcome all sorts of obstacles to lead inspiring lives. And you'll also find tips and advice that will help improve your own life, as well as of those around you.
Among its contributors, this wonderful resource counts people from all walks of life, including musicians, filmmakers, bloggers, Olympic sportspersons, motivational speakers and bestselling authors.
Posts are neatly divided under sections: inspiring, living, loving, playing, working and giving. It's basic mantra? Your Attitudes + Your Choices = Your Life. www. positivelypositive. com
>> KarmaTube
KarmaTube invites volunteers to submit videos that illustrate kindness, beauty and generosity. And over time, it has become a wonderful repository of mini movies, including a project where 185 singers (from 12 countries) collaborated over the internet to create a choral symphony that's simply samazing.
Then there's this story about a grocery store worker who surprises his customers with a carefully-chosen "thought for the day". Every day after work, Johnny-who is afflicted with Downs Syndrome-searches the internet for an inspiring quote. His dad then helps him print multiple copies of that quote.
The next day, Johnny places the quote in each grocery bag he packs. This simple act has had such a profound effect that customers don't mind waiting longer in queues as long as they have Johnny packing their purchases.
Each video is also accompanied by footnotes that inspire you to be the change. For example, the Johnny video encourages viewers to learn more about Downs Syndrome. Watch. Be inspired. Act. www. karmatube. org
>> Cute Overload
Cute Overload is a fun site that's filled with delightful videos and photos scoured from all over the internet. The site relies on user submissions, which are then given crazy captions before making it onto the home page so that you, dear reader, do not have to search the interwebs for your daily dose of cuteness.
If you love cute and funny animals, you will love this website - just what the doctor ordered when you're feeling down and out. Five minutes on this site is guaranteed to brighten up your day by a few lumens at least. cuteoverload. com
