Animal Instincts of a
Leader
Darwin’s ‘Survival of the Fittest’ theory is
as much relevant in the evolutionary science as it is in the science of
organization and management. Those who understand and implement it, emerge as
leaders in their calling. Moreover, leaders tend to understand the survival
theory in its animalistic sense. They know that deep down, all human beings are
animals and though we have become quite civilized superficially, our demean our
often reflects our basic instincts. Here is the first in the list of
organizational behavior classified into animalistic sense for ease of
understanding ( we all like to read and readily understand anything related to
animals !) and accuracy.
The
Lion King (and the Hyenas)
Leaders know their status in the organization and behave accordingly. They maintain decorum in accordance with their position and show boldness, dedication, hard work, honesty and promptness in their working style. Their style of working is generally distinct, but it doesn’t interfere with anyone else’s working style. They create their own sphere without disturbing others, until it becomes necessary-sometimes strict action is needed to keep things under discipline.
The trait, directly in contrast to the Lion King, exhibited automatically by some colleagues are generally found in small groups in dark corners laughing away their frustration for not being able to match or cope with the style of the leader. Moreover, these colleagues shamelessly take pot shots at the leader and get their kicks out of any kind of reaction by the leader, irrespective of the fact that they lose all or most of the times.
