5 WAYS TO - Make it Easy for New Hires
You put out a neat job description
and now that the new employees have come on board, it's important to
facilitate communication between them and the older employees. Varuni Khosla
shows you how you can make the process easy.
1 Make a Good First Impression
Make the first day for the new
employee a memorable one.Lay it out for them; be it their reception, work
place, documentation or whatever. It needs to be done professionally. That
sets the stage for communication lines to open up.
2 Get them Introduced
Company human resource heads and
team leads need to line up a well-rounded write up on the new employee to
disseminate to the team. They can also add a photograph for the old employees
to connect the face to the name, says Colonel Gian Singh Kadian, human
resource head, OneShield India.
3 Take them Around
The HR department and interviewers
are the only points of contact the new employee has had with your company.
New employees must be introduced to their managers besides a other managers
of the team so they feel confident to navigate the new surroundings.
4 Get the Boss to Drop By
When you find the boss finding
time to say `hello' to the new employee, others will also find the motivation
to so, says Swapnil Kamat, founder and CEO of Work Better Training. This helps
bridge conversations between two sets of employees and makes the transition
seamless.
5 Involve Older Employees
It is also a good idea to put
newer and older employees on projects together so they get increased
opportunities to interact. That also helps newer employees understand how the
organisation works and older employees engage with newer ones. Organisations
should also hold events or interaction sessions to encourage older and newer
employees to interact with each other.
