Master of domain: Why you should maintain good communications with employees
Once
you are the top dog, you may have all the power, but how to avoid
burning bridges with your staff
No matter how high you rise in your professional life, you should never let it get to your head. Well, not too much at least. Here are things that should avoid doing, even at the top:
Time is money
No matter how high you rise in your professional life, you should never let it get to your head. Well, not too much at least. Here are things that should avoid doing, even at the top:
Time is money
Not
just for you, but for everyone else. Keep in mind that other people
value their time as much as you value yours. Just because you are
senior doesn't mean that you can call everyone in for a 7 am meeting
only to waltz in at 10 am. Keeping people waiting is a surefire way
to lose respect.
Meet and greet

There's
nothing that will make you more unpopular with your colleagues than
if you just walk into office and head straight into your cabin. No
hellos, no small talk and no coffee machine banter equals to no love
from your employees. Just saying hello (bonus points for using names)
in the morning can do wonders for your reputation and increase
company loyalty.
Compliment others

Whether
it's a project or if someone brought mithai into work, if something
pleases you, let the person responsible know about it. It doesn't
have to be a long drawn out email singing their praises; a quick
'well done' should suffice. This praise will mean much more than a
big Diwali bonus. Well, maybe.
Be mindful
If you've got a position of authority at work, you're probably making more money than other employees at the firm. The first rule if you're flushed with cash is to not flash it around. For example, when it comes to Diwali gifting, keep it tasteful and classic. Also, when picking places to treat your employees for an office lunch, if you're not paying the bill, make sure it is someplace everyone is comfortable with. Don't show off — it's unbecoming.
The little people
It's likely that the hard work of the people below you has something to do with where you are today and remember they are the ones that keep the ball rolling on a regular basis. Even if you have worked up the ladder, don't forget your roots. Don't make them work odd hours or overwork them. They are people and their jobs are as hard as yours.
