Gionee's Elife S 5.5 lays claim to being the world's slimmest smartphone it's just 5.5mm thick and this looks impressive from every angle.
Even in this slim profile, Gionee has managed to load the smartphone with great hardware.

If you think that a few millimeters here and there hardly matters when it comes to a phone, the Gionee S5.5 likely will change your mind. It has a magnesium alloy unibody design with Gorilla Glass 3 on the front and the back. As much as we loved the design, the rear panel was still quite prone to scratches.

On the front is a striking 5-inch full HD super amoled display. The screen has great viewing angles with rich colours and excellent sunlight legibility. Watching videos, reading documents/webpages and playing games is a joy on the display.

Hardware includes an Octa core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 2,300mAh battery. Kudos to Gionee for incorporating such powerful hardware in such a slim body .
The only trouble is that the phone tends to heat up after a 10-minute gaming session ­ something we expected because of the slim design.
Other than that, the phone works fine. Like other Gionee smartphones, the Amigo user interface feels slow because of multiple effects and animations easily fixed by installing a free launcher like Nova.

Gionee has also managed to include dual cameras on the Elife S5.5 ­ 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Both cameras impress in terms of image quality. The rear camera takes fantastic images with minimal noise and does full HD video recording too. Moreover, even the loudspeaker output is surprising loud for the slim size of the phone.

The 2,300mAh battery struggled to last one full day ­ again something we expected. All in all, the Gionee S5.5 breaks the myth that super slim smartphones cannot have top-notch features. For a slightly higher price, you can look at the Gionee Elife E7.
