GADGET GIZMO SPECIAL..... This phone can ‘see' in 3D

This phone can ‘see' in 3D....What does Project Tango Do?

Project Tango is a technology that enables mobile devices to understand objects in space, just like the human eye does. It does so by using three approaches: Motion Tracking, Area Learning and Depth Perception. The first relies on sensors in the phone to measure its own movement in 3D space, the second uses 3D cameras to scan the area in front of it to build a 3D map, and the third is where it can measure its precise distance from other objects in front of it, even dimensions of objects within the scene. When implemented well, this technology could revolutionize the way users interact with the world around them, using their mobile devices.
Google first announced their Tango project, the premise sounded entirely too good to be true. It is a project that famously aimed to arm a mobile device with cameras and sensors that enable it to get a better understanding of the environment and space around it. And now it looks like a real, commercial device is ready for primetime: The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro.

To understand how Tango works, let's look at the current state of the art. Conventional smartphones generally have on board a couple of cameras (one at the back and another at front,) and sensors that measure the phone's orientation. Tango phones step it up to another level--they have multiple cameras and sensors that can scan the scene in front, obtaining plenty of information on the scene it is pointed at including distance of objects, layout of the physical space and more.

These abilities will enable a number of Augmented Reality (AR) applications, where users can view digital information overlaid on a scene viewed by the phone's camera. This includes being able to visualize how a piece of furniture looks in your room by ‘dragging' it around on the screen, or playing immersive games that insert digital characters into the real world, even functioning as a tour guide to help people navigate locations such as museums and public areas.
The standout feature of the Phab 2 Pro is its three built-in cameras that lend it those augmented reality capabilities: an 8MP front-facing camera, a 16MP rear camera and a third depth-sensing infrared. Also, it is capable of shooting 4K videos and recording 360 degree shots.
The phone also has a 6.4-inch QHD (2K) IPS display, and is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 platform, with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. To add to the immersive experience, the phone also features Dolby ATMOS audio technology and can capture 5.1 surround using its three noise-cancelling microphones. Delivering juice to the phone is a 4050mAh battery.
The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is now available to buy online at $449.99 (approximately Rs 33,500) and will be sold in two colours: Champagne Gold and Gunmetal Grey. At the moment, there is no word on its availability of this device in the Indian market.
