HIMALAYAN QUEEN (Kalka - Shimla)

It’s not for nothing that the heritage railway between Kalka and Shimla features in the Guinness Book of World Records; the tracks stretch across the steepest altitude, conquering a length of 96 kilometers upwards, through the picturesque Shivalik Range. It enjoys the title of being one of the highest railway routes in the country. Built in the early 1900s, it makes its way through 102 tunnels and 864 bridges, gently gliding across the fresh air, oak, pine and maple trees.

THE DARJEELING HIMALAYAN RAILWAY (Jalpaiguri - Darjeeling)

Running from Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling, the rail slowly makes its way from the base station up to the misty hill station. The journey is nothing short of a fantasy film which takes you as close to tea estates to watch the tea pickers with baskets strapped on their heads go about their daily business. Apart from the soothing sights, sounds and aromas, the route has been labelled a UNESCO world heritage site too.

NILGIRI MOUNTAIN RAILWAY (Coimbatore- Udhagamandalam)

The journey begins from the plains of Mettupalayam making its way up to the queen of The Nilgiris - Ooty. It is not just the scenic ride that lures people; the train gained further popularity after the famous Bollywood song ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’ was shot atop the moving train. For those looking to reach the hill station anytime, this train ride, spanning across 46 km, certainly adds more value to the experience as opposed to any other route.
