1. Did you know Whisky literally means ‘water of life’?

Scots, Canadians and all other world’s single malt producers prefer ‘whisky’ over ‘whiskey’. And the word whisky is derived from a Gaelic word “Uisge Beatha” that means water of life.

2. What is 'Angel’s share of whisky'?

Every year, whisky stored in barrels evaporates at the rate of 4%. This process is known as the “Angel’s share”

3. Once upon a time, scotch was illegal

The English Malt Tax of 1725 shut down much of Scotland’s whisky production. However, that didn’t stop the scots from consuming scotch illegally, which includes King George IV.

4. Whisky supports a lot of people

Whisky continues to be crucial for the Scottish economy. Every one in fifty jobs in Scotland is supported by the industry. It is also the largest international spirits category, accounting for around 20% of the market share.
5. Whisky gets its colour from wood

Before going into the barrel, scotch has a clear shade. It only gets the colour from the barrels. The older the whisky, the darker its colour.

6. France is the biggest consumer of scotch

THEFRENCH love their scotch more than any other country. Second is the UK and third, the USA.

7. Apparently, whisky is non-fattening

One shot of whiskey contains zero fat and .04 carbs.

8. Whisky is in fact good for many reasons

Apparently, whisky can help prevent cancer, lowers the risk of having a stroke or developing a heart disease and six glasses of whiskey a week can reduce an adult’s risk of dementia.

9. Politicians love whiskey

Hillary Clinton chugs whiskey on a regular basis and Winston Churchill had whiskey and water for breakfast.

10. Whiskey is for life

A whiskey bottle can last for a century if left unopened.
