Midomi to find that song stuck in your head
Have you ever heard a song, and wanted to know its name and who sang it? Unfortunately, with no data at hand, except for a few bars that you’ve been humming, there’s very little you could do on the internet to find this kind of information. Well, not any more.
Midomi, which is also a sort of social network for music lovers, allows you to sing a few bars into your microphone, and then compares it with its extensive music database to find a match for you.
It even has a mobile app called SoundHound, available for the iPhone, Android phones, Windows, as well as many Nokia devices. The software also lets you search for artists and songs, by their names. And with the mobile version you can also hold up your phone near a speaker playing the song—perhaps at a party or at the pub—and get artist details and lyrics.
Midomi also offers the usual textbased search options: by artist, song, album, etc. Best of all, their collection includes a number of Indian songs too. So there’s a fair chance the service will let you know that the song that’s stuck in your head was originally sung by Mohammed Rafi.
