“With
trustworthiness and support, an average leader can climb a step up towards
being exemplary”
An exemplary
leader, in my opinion, is someone who possesses great self-belief. Leaders are
individuals with a vision and they move in the direction of their vision. Those
who benefit or believe in them, move with them. Emotional intelligence is
another integral aspect required to be an exemplary leader, especially when
dealing with a team of individuals. An emotionally intelligent leader would not
only be able to deal with the team’s emotional swings, but also empathise with
and control the team’s emotions and motivate them towards a positive goal.
Some
may argue that good leaders are born whereas others believe that one can
learn to develop leadership qualities over time. Indisputably, both
viewpoints are correct. For an average leader to become an exemplary one,
one needs to lead by example. He/she, if not a role model, should be
someone people look up to for experience and advice. With trustworthiness
and support, an average leader can climb a step up towards being exemplary.
Since we are a part of a constantly changing corporate scenario, any chaos
or challenge can become impediments. We have to master the art of combating
these impediments by understanding the environment and there on, overcoming
any roadblocks. A good leader, in times of crisis, would model the way for
others, inspire and share a vision, enable others to act, and finally
encourage their hearts and minds. There have been defining moments like the
launch of ApnaCircle, followed by the successful M&A. Then, going from
a team of two to 36 was another winning moment.
The Indian youth comprises of our future leaders
and it is important that they believe in themselves if they aspire to
become exemplars of success. They should absorb themselves in the corporate
ball game and try to change it for the better through innovation,
entrepreneurship, wealth-creation for themselves and their stakeholders as
well.
