WORKPLACE SPECIAL .....Get into the good books

WORKPLACE .. Get into the good books

Follow these six simple tricks to win over your workmates

According to a survey, an average person in the US spends 1,353 hours a year at work.
For the same reason, it becomes very important for you to form good relations with your boss and colleagues. Apart from being good at your work, making these personal connections can help you advance within your organisation and provide you with a network that can benefit your career later.
Here are six tips on how to make your co-workers like you:
Give compliments, but don't go overboard
Don't be stingy with your compliments, but recognise that scarcity tends to increase value. Stick to the occasional sincere positive comment, rather than a constant barrage of flattery.
Pay attention to body language
Read the situation before you start a conversation. This is the key to steer the conversation in the right direction and building rapport.
Be nice
If you want people to like you, try to be a genuinely pleasant person to be around. In her book, Boss Bitch: A Simple 12-Step Plan to Take Charge of Your Career, Nicole Lapin writes “Everyone, even the nastiest of them, has good qualities. Find them.“
Ask questions
People love to talk about themselves. Use this fact to your advantage by asking questions about your co-worker's life, projects and interests.
Do your homework
Stalking your co-workers is definitely a bad idea. However, it's smart to do some light research, just to figure them out. You might even find that you have mutual friends or interests that could make for good icebreakers.
Act natural
Don't go crazy trying to win everyone over.Desperation is easy to spot.Treat your efforts to connect with your colleagues less like a quest for office popularity, and more as an opportunity to expand your network and make new friends. According to Lapin, the best strategy is to bond over shared activities, like coffee dates.
