TRAVEL ON BUSINESS SPECIAL.................. A DAY OFF IN CEYLON FOR THE BUSY BUSINESSMAN

A DAY OFF IN CEYLON FOR THE BUSY BUSINESSMAN

Sure, you are there on a business trip, but here are five things you can check out when in Sri Lanka

Languid walks on the beach, hot cups of tea high up in the hills or a great game of golf -there is something for everyone in the land of the King coconut -Sri Lanka. It is the perfect destination for both personal and professional getaways. With hotels increasingly becoming corporate-friendly, there are boardrooms and conference halls in all major properties. So other than official work, what else can be done in Sri Lanka? A look at our top five picks:
Ramayana trails
This trail is perfect for those who are looking to add a dash of culture to their trip. Native Sri Lankans believe the tale of Ramayana can be historically verified. There are many sites that correspond to the epic, such as the Ravana Cave in Ella and Sita Kotuwa (Kotuwa means fortress and according to locals, Sita was held captive here before being taken to Ashoka Vatika) among many others. Be sure to hire a guide who is familiar with these sites as they can be hard to find.
Go golfing
Nothing quite breaks tedium like a good game of golf. Sri Lanka has its own share of challenging golf courses like the Victoria Golf and Country resort, which is an 18-hole golf course, counted amongst the 100 Most Beautiful Courses in the world. With breathtaking views, it is a sprawling property situated among hills bordering the Victoria Dam. The luxurious villas and chalets at the resort have all the trappings for an eventful stay -a swimming pool, horse riding opportunities, a tennis court and a club house.
Tea trails
If you enjoy tea, then tea trails such as the Ceylon Tea Trails are a must.
The colonial bungalows nestled up in the hills amidst tea plantations are a treat. Along with making the best use of the great service and luxury spas, you can also participate in outdoor activities such as tennis, rafting, alongside sampling tea-infused menus, and have the tea picking and making process explained to you.
Rest and recuperation
Sometimes, all you want to do is sprawl on a beach and de-stress. The virgin coastline of Sri Lanka offers pristine shores with magnificent sunsets. Many luxury properties have come up along the coastline to offer the discerning customer all that the country has to offer. Beaches in Bentota in particular are great fun, and all the shopping in the city adds to the joy of being a tourist.
Into the wild
For those who would rather spend their downtime interacting with nature, there are guided bird watching tours, visits to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala and a tour of the turtle hatchery in Kosgoda among others.
Maintained well, these places also offer some unique experiences like feeding baby elephants and releasing days old turtles into the ocean .
