Help is just a tap away
These are not apps you will need
daily. But they can save your day when the unexpected happens
Personal safety, getting from one
place to the other and effective communication are just some of the things that
could be on your mind when you are stranded awkwardly during travel. Luckily,
your smart device can help, as long as you have the right app:
The Ubiquitous Google Translate
If you haven't used Google Translate
recently, you'll be surprised at the kind of features on offer now. If you're
in a location where you can't speak the local language, all you need is this
app. You need a data connection, obviously, but all you have to do is speak
normally into the phone and it can translate (speak out and display on screen)
your voice into your chosen language. It can also translate signboards and
notices if you hold up the phone's camera to it.
Photo Translator Free
This handy app supports translation
between 25 different languages (you can see a complete list on the developer's
website: http:www.smartmobilesoft ware.com). Essentially, you can use your
device's camera to capture an image of a signboard or shop name and get the
translation without having to type out anything. You can get the basic version
of the app free for iOS and Android, while the unrestricted version is priced
at `199. Try it if Google Translate is not working too well for you.
Family Locator by Life360
