GIZMO REVIEW Lava Iris 504Q+
The sub `15,000 range of smartphones
is rapidly growing with manufacturers trying to outdo the other.
Lava's Iris 504Q+ is a new entrant in this category that aims to attract users who want a good camera on their phone without spending too much.
Lava's Iris 504Q+ is a new entrant in this category that aims to attract users who want a good camera on their phone without spending too much.
Even though the phone is just 7.9mm
thick, it weighs 149 grams and feels heavy to carry around. The build quality
is top notch with no creaks or bending and the metallic finish gives it a
premium look and feel. Up front is a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x
720 pixels. The screen is bright with good viewing angles but is also
reflective and prone to smudges and fingerprints.
Under the display are the usual
backlit capacitive buttons for home, menu and back. In a nice touch, the home
button changes colour for different notifications (red for low power, green for
charging and so on).
In terms of hardware, it has a
1.3Ghz quad core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB storage -specifications that are
common in this price range. The performance is also as expected -most apps and
games ran without any hitch and the phone had no issues playing full HD videos
too.
Even though the user interface is close to stock Android with little bloatware, it felt sluggish to navigate.
We were able to fix that by installing a faster launcher like Nova.

The highlight of the phone is its
10MP rear camera. The camera uses a Sony Exmor RS sensor that has larger pixels
(1.4 micrometer -similar to the Nokia Lumia 920) that offers better low light
images. Image quality was top notch, both outdoors and indoors with sharp
details, rich colours and minimal noise.
With the 2,000mAh battery, the phone
lasted us for a full day with mix usage. Overall, the Lava Iris 504Q+ is a good
value for money offering from Lava that delivers good performance and has a
great camera. For the same price you can also consider the Xolo Q1100 .
