SHOPPING/TRAVEL SPECIAL…EXPERT VIEW

SHOPPING/TRAVEL SPECIAL…EXPERT VIEW

Fashion designer and avid traveller Narendra Kumar Ahmed lists destinations he can spend hours or days together just shopping in

I love to shop, so I usually tend to find something unique to shop for in every city. However, two destinations top my list when it comes to serious and hardcore shopping. Milan and Tokyo.

MILAN: This is where you go to find the best of everything. It has the prettiest crafted products and luxury pieces. Shoes, clothes, bags, Milan stocks the best of them all. If you want a good deal, the best time to shop is during the first week of June or July, when the summer sales are announced. It’s a shopping heaven at that point.
TOKYO: Another must-visit destination for a shopping maverick, Tokyo is the best when it comes to offering cutting edge fashion, catering mainly to young people. Their designs ooze creativity. The youth like to frequent places like Harajuku where all the trendy stuff is sold. Shibuya is for the up-market fashion conscious. The elite like to splurge in places like Omotesando. Shopping in Tokyo, however, is quite an expensive affair.
NEW YORK: NYC is great to source cool, young fashion and in an affordable range, especially when you compare it to places like Milan and Tokyo.
LONDON: You’ll find diverse products here thanks to the melting pot of cultures that London has turned into now. Hit the Portobello market for quirky products, clothes, accessories, decorative pieces and the like. You’ll find everything ranging from eclectic stuff to vintage couture in this market.
BARCELONA: Again, one of the best places to scout for sporty, young and cool fashion. The markets here are more mass-oriented but cool at the same time.
ZURICH: Neider Dorf has several brands that are targeted at mass consumption. Definitely a must-visit for young and trendy fashion. They also have amazing chocolates... it’s all about the good life here.
BERLIN: Books, artefacts, historic products... the list is endless.
